Pisco obtained another international triumph, being crowned at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most important wine and spirit events in the world. In this year’s edition, held in Guimaraes, Portugal, our national drink won a grand gold medal, six gold prizes and nine silver ones.
8,397 wines and spirits from 52 countries participated in the event. One of six grand gold medals was awarded to Tabarnero’s La Botija Italia 2011. The pisco also received the highest score in the category and took home the trophy for best spirit.
Carlos de Piérola, a member of the jury, said that “the name of Peru has reached the very top, as among the winners of the grand gold medals, they picked the best in each category. Pisco won among the distilled spirits.”
Winning gold medals were the mosto verde moscatel, mosto verde quebranta and quebranta bottles from Finca Rotondo, as well as the mosto verde viejo tonel and the pisco puro aromatico torontel from Casa de Piedra.
Silver medals went to the La Botija acholado, the acholado and puro quebranta from Pozo Santo, the mosto verde quebranta from Barsol, the mosto verde torontel from Finca Rotondo, the premium mosto verde Italia and mosto verde quebranta from Tabernero, and the pisco puro aromático Italia from Casa de Piedra.
